Malabrigo Quickie Tea Garden by Laura Patterson
Our 100% Mulberry Silk yarn Mora is a dream to knit with and it absolutely loves lace. So when the talented designer Laura Patterson of Fiber Dreams proposed this stunning lace shawl for a Quickie we jumped on the proposal!
Meet Tea Garden! Starting with just a few stitches this asymmetrically shaped shawl grows along the right hand edge and evolves into a mesh lace finished with a perfect picot bind-off. I personally am in love with the treatment along the bottom edge which shows the designers attention to detail.
A small version of this shawl can be knit with one skein, knit as pictured with two skeins, or you could go for the large with three skeins. Or one of each LOL! We asked the designer to provide us with a few thoughts on her design process and she had this to say:
The very first time I saw the main stitch that I used in this design I knew I’d have to do something with it, something special. I didn’t know right away exactly what it wanted to be, so I let it percolate. It sat there quietly in my book, calling out whenever I was nearby, and patiently waiting a little longer. Finally I knew. I chose a favorite frilly little edge for the edge of the triangle, and a super-simple border for the end, and that was it. All that was left was to knit it.
While we think this piece looks amazing in the designer’s chosen color Whales Road, we asked her what other colors she thinks would play well with this pattern and she had the following thoughts:
I think this shawl would look just as good in any of the semi-solids, but my personal favorites are Cereza, Lettuce, Teal Feather, Paris Night, and Black.
I can’t wait to see what color you choose to knit up this silken lacey dream for yourself. See Tea Garden on Ravelry here and get a copy for yourself.
